What size quilt for a queen bed?
A 60 × 80-inch queen mattress with 12-inch side and foot drops needs an 84 × 92-inch quilt. Adding 8 inches at the head makes it 84 × 100. These are calculated examples, not universal queen quilt sizes.
Translate the target into a buildable top
Width = mattress width + 2 × drop. Length = mattress length + drop + head allowance. One drop setting applies to sides and foot.
Use the block grid and borders to reach the target. Construction and shrinkage allowances are separate.
Size the other layers separately
Confirm overhang on the actual bed. Calculate backing and batting with their own working allowances.
